I suppose it depends to some degree on each childs interest, and what they get the most out of. Our Child seems to get something out of all three as educational tools. I'm sure some would frown on our given our child an Emac at 1-1/2 years of age. Well there was a practical reason. He was extremely curious about Mom & Dads computers, with a preference for Dads. He somehow kept reconfiguring Dads desktop, which on occasion took a good 45 minutes to get unscrewed.
Since I use it for work, this was not a good thing. Well when he got his own computer he was very happy and proceeded to figure it out well enough to use the educational CD's over the next 6 months. And he really likes the paint program. I'm sort of the mind set that if kids are not exposed to various resources, you really will have no idea what they can or cannot do?
Just assuming what is age appropriate is just that, an assumption. As far a video games, such as run on X-box/Playstation, there OK for development of fine motor skills, but so is a pencil/crayon and paper, and nothing beats a game of catch or kickball on a Sunny Day in the fresh air. As far as religious materials, I'm all for anything that teaches a Moral lesson.
On a more secular note, I really like the Arthur show on PBS for kids. It always conveys some sort or moral lesson. Heck, I even watched it a few times before becoming a Parent
